Updating your kitchen without breaking the bank
Kitchens are the centre piece of a home. As we all know, everyone that enters our homes seems to congregate in our kitchens. The space acts as the palate for our family and friends to gather for good food and drink, joyous moments of celebration and is essentially the centre piece of the home.
We often become fearful when wanting to upgrade our kitchens, they become tired and outdated, but what should we do when we are on a tight budget. A total kitchen overhaul will cost thousands of dollars to redesign and install new custom cabinetry. How do we get around this when those funds are limited?
There are many simple ways in which we can give that wow factor to your present kitchen. It just takes a little imagination and sometimes straying outside you current way of thinking. Take a look at your space: imagine a new floor that may bring a splash of color to the room, what about the changing the shade of the walls to highlight an inviting and warm feel when entering, new tile backsplash will gleam and reflect the natural light that permeates through your windows and doors. These are all very affordable ways to spruce up your area and below, I have listed the other projects that we certainly recommend to give you that new kitchen feel without looking at depleting bank account.
Why not change those handles or knobs that look grimy and dated. There are so many options on the market today you can simply purchase and install yourself. From modern to classic with vast colour and finish options, these are a great and ultra affordable way to give that updated look.
We often become accustomed to using the same faucet to wash those dishes and forget that these fixtures are one of the easiest items to replace in the kitchen. That boring chrome faucet can now be interchanged with so many options that you will have a hard time choosing the one you love because there are so many to love on the market today
Kitchen cabinet painting
For the fraction of the cost of replacing those cabinets, painting is a very affordable option with an outcome that will surprise you. You can attempt to do it yourself, however, to get the best possible and professional look, we take the faces of your cabinet doors and drawers off site to be cleaned, stripped and sprayed professionally to your colour choice, returned and reinstalled. All other outer surfaces such as crown, valence and gables that are permanently fixed are professionally painted on site. This will give you that wow factor when the transformation occurs at a very affordable cost
One of the most forgotten accents of the kitchen is lighting to give your space that rejuvenated face lift. Replacing the hanging fixture in the middle of your kitchen with recessed lighting in the specific areas will give that clean and vibrant look. Placing pendant fixtures over you island to give you that sophisticated feel or accent lighting above your cabinets with new colour changing LED RGB lights (you can change to 16 different colour combinations and various styles for parties, holidays etc) Lighting is essential in making you space literally shine. Why not change out the dated fluorescent under valence lighting with new sleek dimmable LED strip lights that last for 30,000 – 50, 000 hours. Lighting is a must to be looked at and again will not burn a hole in your pockets.
Kitchen Cabinet re-facing
Are the faces of your cabinets damaged or the current style is not to your liking? Removing and replacing these is a viable solution. There are various options from MDF, thermofoil wrapped to multiple hardwood types. These different options will help you to stay within your budget and get that particular style and finish you may be looking for. The process takes approximately 4-5 weeks from initial measurement to manufacture and installation.
One of the easiest ways to transform your space. Before choosing a colour at the local paint store, go to a manufacturer’s website (Benjamin Moore below) to upload photos of your space. You then can mix and match colours to see what suites your taste. This is a fun and interactive way to play with different colour schemes.
Are you tired of the checkered look and want to be a little more sophisticated? Hardwood in the kitchen seems to be a big trend now or you can install affordable ceramic which is easier to maintain than the more expensive natural stones, is a great option. After a couple of days of removal and installation you will wonder why you waited so long to change the most utilized part of your house.
There are so many options to choose from. Granite, quartz, ceramic tile, butcher block they all come in a wide variety of colours and patterns. Even though we may think of laminate as passé, it is very durable, comes in patterns that are endless and is a very affordable option. Accent your counter top with different backsplash styles such as glass tile, metal, or wood to match your cabinets. This is a very creative way to really give that extra splash to the kitchen space.
